The Mermaid Club founder, Helena Redshaw declares “On behalf of The Mermaid Club I’m absolutely thrilled to partner with the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Our theme this year is “Mermaid Love” and there is nothing we mermaids do best than share the love and give back. We chose the Children’s Tumor Foundation because they are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF). Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 people. It causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, and can lead to deafness, blindness, disfigurement, bone abnormalities, learning disabilities, disabling pain, and cancer. It can occurs in anyone we know… our moms, dads, sisters, brothers, children, friends and there is not yet a cure. They also run an amazing endurance program for athletes who want to give back and you know we Mermaids love a bit of endurance!  I have no doubt that our Mermaids will rally together and give back by participating in this global event. Together I believe we can ‘Make Waves’ in September and I just can’t wait!”

“The Children’s Tumor Foundation are thrilled to be partnering with The Mermaid Club for their 3rd Annual International Mermaid Day” said Emily Crabtree from the Children’s Tumor Foundation. “It’s a perfect fit when you get to partner with an organization that is just as passionate as you are about endurance events and giving back to the community”

Meet-up events are being planned by a network of Mermaid Ambassadors in many cities across the United States and as far away as the Netherlands. Event organizers and individual Mermaids are encouraged to take pictures and post them with the hashtag #mermaidlove as they celebrate the day doing the activity of their choice.

Last year’s event marked the second year the event was held. Through virtual participation and meet-ups, participants celebrated the mermaid spirit through a commemorative run, bike, swim, or activity of their choice. The Mermaid Club was able to donate $3500 dollars to Girls on the Run, Palm Beach. The first year The Mermaid Club raised $2000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

About Children’s Tumor Foundation

The Children’s Tumor Foundation is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF).  NF affects more than 2 million people worldwide; this makes NF more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s Disease combined.  With the money that is raised, we help fund research that will hopefully one day end NF.
The main website is ctf.org.  The endurance specific site is nfendurance.org.
