November 6, 2014. One of the worst days and best days of my life. Funny how that happens. I was on top of the world. I was the strongest and fastest I have ever been. I had just completed my second Boston qualifier at the Chicago marathon. As a runner, the last thing you want to hear is a doctor telling you you are being sidelined for the next 12 weeks. A tibial stress fracture was the diagnosis. A diagnosis that forced me to find other ways besides running to keep my cardio fitness in check. But, on the same note when I look back on this date, I would never have become a triathlete unless I got injured, forced to rest, and take a break from running.
“Better to have and not need than to need and not have.”
Great advice my dad has always told me and on May 7th, 2016 I wish I had heeded these words.
When we opened up the ambassador application process, we were hoping to introduce maybe 10 or 20 additional special representatives to our community. The hundreds of applications we received instead both surprised and amazed us!

At first I thought that I was going to write this piece after I finally finished my half Ironman distance race because I thought it would be a better story and completing the race would help my writing. I also wanted to write something after the race so it could actually make me do the race! However, I realize the best time to write this is when I am feeling the anxiety and fear and that is now. With two days left to race day I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. As some of you may know fear and anxiety can lead to a depression which in turn makes me feel like a failure.
Mermaids. They comes in all shapes and sizes. They are young and even younger, and they live as close as New York and as far afield as Australia. When we grow up don’t we wanna be a Mermaid like these Mermaid Club Ambassadors?
